On the first anniversary of its successful run on CANNESERIES, 'The Left-Handed Son', a Movistar Plus+ original production in collaboration with Atípica Films, created and co-directed by Rafael Cobos, premieres on April 5th on CANAL+ France. The miniseries, made up of six thirty-minute episodes, will be available from that day onwards in its entirety on demand on the French platform.
'The Left-Handed Son' has achieved a very important milestone when it was recognised as Best Miniseries at the CANNESERIES 2023 festival. In addition, at the PRODU awards, the only industry awards that seek to recognise excellence in Latin American and Spanish-language production, it won in the categories of Best Miniseries, Best Leading Actress in a Series and Dramatic Miniseries for María León, and Best Musical Composer for Julio de la Rosa.
The production, starring María León, deals with the complicated relationship between a mother and her son, the unexpected friendship between two women from very different worlds and the search for a second chance.
Synopsis
Lola is left-handed. So is her son Lorenzo. We have the habit of saying that our children have to look like someone else. As if we wanted to deny the enormous act of freedom that it is to be born. Who does the left-handed son who beats other mothers' children look like?
The Cast
María León ('The Sleeping Voice') as Lola leads a cast completed by Tamara Casellas ('Ama') as Maru, Alberto Ruano ('The Queen's Gambit', 'Warrior Nun') as Rodrigo, Marisol Membrillo as Pilar and the young Hugo Welzel in the role of Lorenzo, Numa Paredes as Inés and Germán Rueda as 'Loco'.
Original music
The BSO of 'The Left-Handed Son', for which Rafael Cobos has counted on Julio de la Rosa and the collaboration of artists such as Bronquio, Nita, Rocío Márquez or Dalila, adds another narrative layer to the story and gives the miniseries a rhythm and tone that are in themselves a declaration of the author's intentions.
Rafael Cobos (Goya award for Best Original Screenplay for 'Marshland', Goya award for Best Adapted Screenplay for 'Smoke & Mirrors') has built the creative and aesthetic identity of the miniseries. He has been accompanied by Paco R. Baños ('The Plague'), who has directed four of the six episodes.
