The prestigious European cultural channel ARTE France has joined the production of 'The Anatomy of a Moment', an agreement that guarantees the premiere of the original Movistar Plus+ series in the network of territories in which the channel operates.
This agreement confirms the excellent relationship between the two players and comes just one year after the announcement of the co-production of 'The New Years' by Rodrigo Sorogoyen. During 2024, ARTE France also acquired the rights for its territories of the series 'La Mesías' and 'Querer'. 'La Mesías' has become a huge success in France, both in terms of audience and critical acclaim. It is the phenomenon series of the moment in France and has had more than 1.8 million views to date. 'Querer', on the other hand, will be released in France in June 2025.
'The Anatomy of a Moment' is currently being filmed in various locations in Madrid.
Domingo Corral, Content Director at Movistar Plus+, has stated: “I want to thank ARTE France, Alexandre Piel, and his team for having such a unique vision regarding content.
At Movistar Plus+, we feel very fortunate to have them on board as partners in this special project. We are thrilled with the opportunity to bring European audiences closer to a pivotal moment in Spain's history—the 1981 coup d'état.
In 'The Anatomy of a Moment', we will have the chance to work once again with ARTE and also with a director of the caliber of Alberto Rodríguez. It will be an exceptional series”.
Alexandre Piel, Deputy Head of Drama at ARTE France, wanted to highlight: “We are extremely proud to renew our collaboration with Movistar Plus+ through this project ‘The Anatomy of a Moment’ a project that seems to us to be a key to understanding today's Spain.
It seemed essential to us to participate in this reconstruction of the moment when the young Spanish democracy almost plunged into a dark period. We were captivated by this way of telling the story of how three men, from different backgrounds but driven by the same vision of Spanish as a nation and armed with only their courage, stood up to this attempted coup.
Finally, we are thrilled to work with Domingo's team once again, and doing so alongside Alberto Rodríguez, one of the most talented directors of his generation, is a fabulous opportunity”.
José Manuel Lorenzo, producer of the series: ‘For DLO Producciones it is a great pride that ARTE France has become involved in this project, so this episode of the Spanish history we are telling with all our passion, will cross borders'.
Synopsis 'The Anatomy of a Moment'
Based on the 23-F coup d'état that took place in Spain on February 23, 1981, ‘The Anatomy of a Moment’ dissects one of the crucial moments in recent Spanish history: the Transition. When Civil Guard Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Tejero entered the Congress building with a pistol in his hand, only three men remained seated while the rest ducked for cover: Adolfo Suárez, Santiago Carrillo and Gutiérrez Mellado.
Through these three men who led the transition to democracy and the three main leaders of the coup d'état, Tejero, Milans and Armada, the series recounts the chain of events and tensions that led Spain to the brink of a return to the previous military regime. Based on the book by Javier Cercas, which has been called “one of the major works of literature in the Spanish language of our time”.
