Movistar Plus is entering a new phase under the leadership of Alfonso Gómez Palacio to accelerate growth, strengthen its editorial capabilities, and consolidate its role as one of the key differentiating assets in Movistar’s value proposition.
The platform will continue supporting the company’s B2C commercial strategy and Movistar’s convergent offering, with the aim of delivering more and better entertainment services to customers. The new organization is designed to place greater focus on the business, expand content production, and improve coordination between the areas that shape the customer experience.
The editorial structure will revolve around two major entertainment pillars: content and sports. The first includes films, series, documentaries, programs, and new original production formats. The second will remain one of Movistar Plus’s key differentiating pillars.
The Content division will be led by Juan Andrés García Ropero, “Bropi,” who will oversee the strategy and development of films, series, documentaries, programs, and new original production formats. Bropi, who joined Movistar Plus in 2018, has extensive experience in the audiovisual sector and has played a significant role in recent years in the evolution of the platform’s sports content offering.
Under his leadership, the Content division will be organized into four units to strengthen editorial capabilities and boost original production: Originals Movistar Plus, led by Bruna Hernando, integrating original Fiction and Non-Fiction Series; Spanish Cinema, led by Guillermo Farré; Editorial Development/Acquisitions, led by Iñigo Trojaola; and Entertainment, led by Hugo Tomás.
Meanwhile, Enric Rojas will continue heading Business Management and Sports, where he will keep strengthening Movistar Plus’s sports offering, one of the platform’s major differentiators and an essential part of the entertainment experience for customers.
“Movistar Plus is entering a new phase with a clear ambition: to grow, invest in content, and offer more and better entertainment services to our customers,” said Alfonso Gómez Palacio, CEO of Movistar Plus.
Gómez Palacio emphasized that the platform “will continue to be a key part of Telefónica and Movistar’s convergent value proposition,” because “entertainment, sports, and differentiated content are becoming increasingly important in customer relationships”.
The CEO of Movistar Plus also highlighted that “the company aims to continue proving that it competes through a distinctive proposition based on Spanish talent, creative ambition, industrial capabilities, and sustained investment in projects that create value for customers and drive the entire Spanish audiovisual sector”.
More customers, new Plans and a more flexible offering
In the first quarter, the platform added 86,000 net customers and accelerated year-on-year growth in its customer base, which rose from 7.9% in 2025 to 8.3% in the first quarter of 2026.
With these results, Movistar Plus has reached 3.9 million paying subscribers and strengthened its positive momentum in an increasingly competitive market.
This growth reinforces the platform’s strategy: a broad proposition, high-quality content, stronger commercial focus, a more flexible offering, and a closer relationship with customers. It also consolidates its role within Telefónica España as a key differentiator in Movistar’s convergent offering.
Movistar Plus recently launched new plans to broaden audiences and make access to its content easier. The Free Plan allows users to discover a selection of the catalog and acts as a gateway to subscription plans. These users are not included in the reported number of paying subscribers, but they represent an important avenue for increasing awareness of the offering and supporting future conversions.
In addition, the new “Free Plan: Movies and Series,” priced at €4.99, is aimed at audiences interested in films and series who are looking for a flexible, competitive offer not necessarily linked to sports.
With these plans, Movistar Plus is opening new avenues for growth in both customer acquisition and retention, while reinforcing its goal of offering a more accessible, flexible, and customer-oriented entertainment experience.
The Movistar Plus seal of quality
The new organization preserves one of the platform’s main assets: the Movistar Plus seal of quality. The company will continue investing in ambitious original productions, Spanish creative talent, and content capable of standing out in an increasingly fragmented market.
Movistar Plus will continue developing films, series, documentaries, programs, and new original production formats. The platform aims to grow not only in volume but also in relevance: expanding its production capabilities, reaching wider audiences, and maintaining a recognizable editorial identity.
This seal of quality makes it possible to combine internationally oriented projects, auteur-driven content, entertainment formats, mainstream productions, and a differentiated sports offering. The ambition of this new phase is not to choose between quality and growth, but to demonstrate that both dimensions can reinforce each other.
Sports, a key pillar of the entertainment experience
Sports will continue to have a central role at Movistar Plus. Under the leadership of Enric Rojas, the Business Management and Sports division will continue strengthening a key offering for both the platform and its customers.
Movistar Plus maintains its position as a leading destination for enjoying major competitions, with distinctive coverage, its own narrative style, and some of the most recognized voices and faces in Spanish sports broadcasting.
The combination of sports, films, series, original productions, documentaries, programs, and new formats enables Movistar Plus to offer a unique proposition in the market: a complete, flexible, and recognizable platform designed for different ways of enjoying entertainment.
Movistar Plus continues making History
Movistar Plus is also entering this new phase with a strong presence in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival, with three titles linked to the platform: the originals The Beloved, by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, and The Black Ball, by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, as well as Bitter Christmas, by Pedro Almodóvar, which features significant participation from Movistar Plus.
This milestone reinforces Movistar Plus’s role as a driving force behind Spanish audiovisual production and as a platform capable of supporting projects with both national and international ambitions.
A platform with future ambition
The new organization will allow Movistar Plus to move forward with greater focus, stronger coordination, and a structure better prepared to execute its strategy and support Telefónica’s Transform & Grow plan.
Within Telefónica España, Movistar Plus will continue to be a key lever for strengthening Movistar’s commercial proposition in the B2C market, supporting the convergent offering, and delivering differentiated value to customers through entertainment, sports, and high-quality content.
With this new phase, Movistar Plus is reinforcing its ability to grow, expand audiences, and consolidate a distinctive proposition in the Spanish audiovisual market: a platform with identity, talent, industrial ambition, and an increasingly open, flexible, and competitive offering.
