The San Sebastian Festival will host the world premiere of ‘I’m Nevenka’, by Iciar Bollain, which will form part of the Official Selection of the 72nd edition of the event to be held between 20 and 28 September.
Iciar Bollain has referred to her new participation in the Festival: "Going to San Sebastian always gives me enormous excitement, and this year, with such tough competition, being there is a prize in itself... What's more, Nevenka will be accompanying us. This is very exciting for all of us who have made the film, and I think it will be very emotional for her too".
‘I’m Nevenka’ is a Movistar Plus+ original film produced by Kowalski Films, Feelgood Media, Nva Peli AIE, and with associate production by Garbo Produzioni (Italy).
The film will be released theatrically in Spain on September 27 with distribution by Buena Vista International. International sales are handled by Film Factory.
‘I’m Nevenka’ stars Mireia Oriol (‘The Art of Return', ‘The Girl in the Mirror) and Urko Olazabal (Goya Award for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Maixabel’). They are accompanied by Ricardo Gómez (‘The Route’), Carlos Serrano (‘La ley del mar’), Lucía Veiga (‘Rapa’), Luis Moreno (‘Spanish Shame’), Javier Gállego (‘The Mess You Leave Behind’), Mercedes del Castillo (‘Instinct’) and Font García (‘Perfect Life’, ‘On the Fringe’).
Iciar Bollain, director of ‘Maixabel’ (three Goya awards and the most watched Spanish dramatic film in cinemas in 2021), is inspired by the real case of Nevenka Fernández, the councillor of Finance of the Ponferrada City Council who got, for the first time in Spain, a politician to be sentenced for harassment.

Synopsis
In the year 2000, Nevenka Fernández, 24 years old, councillor of Finance in the Ponferrada City Council, suffers a relentless persecution, both sentimental and professional, by the mayor, a man used to do his will in the political and personal spheres. Nevenka decides to report him, although she knows that she will have to pay a very high price: her entourage does not support her, the society of Ponferrada turns its back on her and she is subjected to a public trial by the media.
Her case started the #metoo movement in Spain long before the term was invented. A story inspired by true events that makes its protagonist a pioneer by bringing an influential and popular politician to court for the first time for sexual and workplace harassment.
