'Sundays', an original Movistar Plus+ film written and directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, has won the Golden Shell at the 73rd San Sebastian Film Festival. The award confirms the filmmaker as one of the great directors of our country. In addition, 'Los Tigres', an original Movistar Plus+ film co-written and directed by Alberto Rodríguez, has been recognised with the Jury Prize for Best Photography for Pau Esteve. Both awards consolidate Movistar Plus+ as the home of Spanish talent and creative excellence.
'Sundays' also received the FIPRESCI prize, an award given by the International Federation of Film Critics to the best film in the Official Selection, the Irizar Award for Basque Cinema, as well as the Feroz Zinemaldia Award from the Spanish Film Critics Association (AICE) and the SIGNIS Award from an international jury made up of members of SIGNIS (International Catholic Association for Communication).
Movistar Plus+ rounds off a historic 2025 internationally following the success of 'Sirat', directed by Oliver Laxe, which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and the series 'Querer', created by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, and 'Celeste', created by Diego San José, which won the two main awards (Grand Prize in the International Competition and Best Series in the Panorama section) at the Séries Mania festival in Lille (France).
Alauda Ruiz de Azúa said when collecting the Golden Shell: ‘I love cinema because it always teaches me that you can look at things from a different perspective, try to understand something that is different from you. I don't think that trying to understand something means validating or legitimising it, but we live in a world where there are always people who are different from you, and that's why it's worthwhile for cinema to be a place for reflection and debate’.
